Schooling in Shanghai Education is a critical concern for families relocating. Shanghai offers limited, but in general, high quality schooling options in various mediums. English language medium schools can be divided into 2 groups - US curriculum based and UK curriculum based. Most of these schools will offer the IB programme, so there is convergence in curricula for senior students.The German, French and Japanese speaking communities also have their own schools teaching in their respective mother tongues and some schools such as Yew Chung and SMIC offer bi-lingual (English and Mandarin) syllabi and classes. A common element of all the major international schools in Shanghai is the high quality of the campus environment and infrastructure. With few exceptions, the schools are less than 10 years old and designed and built to international standards. Similarly, the majority of the teaching staff are also expatriate.
