Han's Gallery
Ritan Dongyijie
Beijing, China

Han's Gallery is a small private venue specializing in contemporary Chinese painters and antique embroidery.

Houhai Market
At Houhai Gongyuan
Beijing, China

Houhai Market is a small lane lined with tiny antiques shops. It can be tough to find on weekends, when a surrounding produce market fills the neighborhood with shoppers. Follow the footpath that hugs the shore on the west bank of Houhai Lake. Look for a sign (in English) advertising antiques.

Liangmahe Market
49 Liangmaqiao Lu
Beijing, China

In Liangmahe Market, stalls offer curios, antiques, collectibles, and fakes. Prices are higher than at Chaowai, so good bargaining skills are imperative. Toward the north of the market are several shops selling high-quality antiques. One of these, the Hua Yi Classical Furniture Company, has a warehouse/factory complex outside Beijing that is open to the public. Ask a salesperson to accompany you.

Liulichang Jie
Liulichang
Xuanwu District
Beijing, China

Liulichang Jie occupies a narrow street that has been carefully restored to its Ming-era grandeur. Its classical architecture is as much an attraction as the art and antiques shops. Artists come here for the selection of brushes, paper, and ink stones.

Panjiayuan
Huaweiqiaoxinan Jie
Dongsanhuan
Chaoyang District, China

The Sunday market at Panjiayuan is Beijing's liveliest. Vendors fill hundreds of open-air stalls with a dizzying array of collectibles, as well as lots of junk. Old clocks, new porcelain, jade, bronzes, tomb art, wood carvings, Tibetan rugs -- it's all here. The market is grubby, so dress down. Arrive at sunrise to beat the crowds. Many stalls also do business on Saturday.
