The standard of medical services in Hong Kong are amongst the highest in Asia. There are two medical schools attached to 2 different Universities in Hong Kong and many specialist Doctors have trained overseas in countries like UK, US, Canada and Australia. The Government run accident and emergency wards at certain hospitals and clinics which offer a high standard of care and their services are available for a nominal fee to all residents of Hong Kong holding a valid HK Identity Card. Unfortunately waiting times at these hospitals and clinics can be long and most expatriates have private health insurance so they tend to use the private hospital system. Private medical care is extremely expensive and you would be well advised to check your company health scheme before using the private system.
