Links Relocations sponsored a team from the Lantau Boat Club in the Discovery Bay Dragon Boat Festival this year. The team was definitely aimed at the fun end of the scale rather than the serious prize chasers, and was made up of sailors, friends, family and passersby who knew the basics of which end of a paddle to use. The expectation was that we would have the requisite two races, then sit on the beach drinking beer and watching the more successful teams slave away in the sun.

To everyone's surprise we did reasonably well in the two qualifiers and found ourselves in a semi-final. To even more shock we won that race by quite a large margin - were the other teams playing a more tactical game perhaps? Say what you like, we were in the Plate Final.

Come the big race we gave it our all and paddled our hearts out. We didn't win, but were very glad to beat the Disney team by a tenth of a second!

Finally, several hours later than expected, we finally got to the cold beer, and it tasted all the sweeter for having earned it!
